Paintings Featured in Prestigious Montage Resort, Laguna Beach
As one of California's best-known landscape painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, William Wendt was called the "Dean of Southern California" artists.
Wendt traveled and painted Laguna Beach landscapes prior to the population boom of the late 20th century. He captured the true beauty of the original Laguna Beach.
In California, Wendt spent his time painting the landscape outdoors in "plein air". Wendt had a deep respect for untamed nature and found not only peace and comfort, but the manifestation of the Creator.
In 1906, Wendt married Julia Bracken, a sculptress. The couple moved to California where they spent the rest of their lives. He purchased the land in 1906 and built the house (229 Arch Street) that stands today in 1918.
The Montage Resort in Laguna Beach is one of California's most renowned oceanfront resorts. Wendt's artwork is displayed in the lobby of the luxury craftsman style hotel.
